When it comes to fume hoods, the two main varieties are ducted or ductless. The arrival of ductless fume hoods brought a new level of flexibility to the laboratory environment that had not been seen before. Because ductless fume hoods do not rely on traditional ductwork to exhaust contaminated air to the outside, they can be easily relocated throughout the lab. Additionally, their reliance on high quality carbon filters, and HEPA/ULPA filters for applications that encounter particulates, means that operators and the environment are protected from harmful substances generated on the work surface.
